I was told as a child I had a trust fund. My grand father started it at birth. I am 22 years old now and Im seeking to find out if I do and how to get it. What do I do?

What state did your grandfather live in? What state do you live in?

You can start at NAUPA, the National Association of Unclaimed Property Admistrators. They represent state governments which are holding unclaimed property.

The obvious answer is: ask your grandfather about it. If he is no longer living, then how about asking your parents?

Failing that - all trusts must have a trustee named, who is the person responsible for administering the trust. So you want to figure out who the trustee is. It would typically be a relative, but may be a financial institution such as a bank. Assuming your grandfather is no longer living - whomever was the executor of his estate should have come across the paperwork that established the trust as well as financial statements documenting the trust's assets. So if you know who the executor was, ask him/her.

Finally - trusts and wills are typically drawn up as part of an overall estate planning package, usually with the help of an attorney. You may be able to determine who that was either by reviewing your grandfather's will or (again)by asking the executor of his estate. If you can track down the attorney you can then determine whether that attorney drew up any trust agreements for you rgrandfather.

The trustee is responsible for contacting you when the trust matures. Given that you are 22 it could mature at 25. I would follow ebaines suggestions to see if you can track it down.
