I plan to buy a new computer equipped with Windows 7 and will want to transfer my files from my old computer which has Vista. Ive read that the easiest way is with a Belkin Easy Transfer cable. Is this true? (Remember I am a "beginner").

Nah, the easiest way of all is to copy them to a USB key.
Also called a flash drive, pen drive, memory stick, USB drive, etc.
A 2GB one is under $10, or borrow one.
Put it in any USB slot (like where your mouse goes, usually), follow the directions to load files from your old computer, very easy, then put the drive in the slot of your new computer, and it practically does the transfer for you.
Ok thank you all for your comments.
Just to be on the safe side, make sure you have already installed and updated your anti-virus on the new computer before you proceed with the file transfers.
Ah OK, good.
