    Garnishment of book sales
We live in Texas and my ex owes me about $6000 for medical support of our son. I have a court order in place and he currently pays me $35/month which basically is only covering the interest accumulating. He recently published a book and I want to know if profits he makes from book sales can be garnished to pay off his debt to me.

I've called the local OAG and the operator could not answer my question. Does anyone know what, if anything, I can do?

Was the medical support court ordered and was the initial bill $12,000 ? Where is the interest coming from on the $6,000 owed?

Yes, I believe you can get an order of execution against the book royalties and serve them on the publisher.

Califdadof3 - yes the medical support was court ordered and I had to take him back to court for enforcement. As his monthly income is relatively low, he was ordered to pay only $35/mo. The total amount of $6,000 is accruing interest so that $35 barely covers the interest each month (or so I'm told).

ScottGem - I've recently discovered that he and his daughter published the book themselves. So does that mean the order of execution would be served to them, I guess?

If its self published, then you may be stuck. First a self published book probably is not making much money. Second, unless you can find how payments for the book are processed you may have nothing to serve a writ to.
