I would like to know what is the excepted late fee charge for a renter in las vegas Nevada , my son is being charged $300.00 late fee is this normal , his rental was robbed (he's renting a house) and he had to repair the broken window and damaged door where the robber tried to gain entry the owner refused to fix and put in place safety measures for his wife and kids safety, he is a cross country truck driver and wasn't getting paid when he returned home and those expense caused them to be late on there rent , I'd like to also know if the owner is responsible for said damages or should the $1000.00 deposit apply to this,

The late fee should be in his lease, what did he agree to when he first started renting? Nevada has few rent restrictions on fees but they should be "reasonable." Can't believe they put that word in their law. The owner should have insurance for this but likely is trying to avoid his deductible. No, his deposit will not apply toward this damage.

While this is high, I have had 100 dollars and 10 dollar a day it was late in mine.

But if that is listed in the lease, then it is what they agreed to.
The landlord should be responible for fixing the damage of the break in, if he refuses you can try notify him and deducting it from the rent.
You may end up in housing court over it.

This is covered in Chapter 118A of the Nevada Revised Statutes. As stated by ballengerb, it seems the only guidance given on the amount of late fee is "reasonable". There might be case law on the regulation, which you might be able to search on NOLO or ask a legal aide.

In California, they have a similar regulation, "reasonable", but there is case law, and a little more direction in the regs to prevent landlords from charging a rate that is "retaliatory". The fee needs to represent the ACTUAL cost of receiving the rent late like the incurring of late fees from the bank.

Lawyers here in CA suggest $25 has been considered fair by CA courts. I wonder if the same sort of guidance has been created in NV. Fr_Chuck is accurate, the landlord is responsible for repairing the window.

Landlord has insurance on the dwelling which should cover the repairs of the breaking. You as a tenant should have renter's insurance which would cover any of your personal property that was taken or damaged. Apparently the landlord may have a high deductible and does not want to pay out of his own pocket and is forcing you to pay for repairs. You could withhold the amount you pay for damages but be ready for when landlord takes you to court or decides to try and evict your famiy. Your son did not do the damages to the window or door and this should not be deducted from the deposit.

Normaly is 50 day the frist day you are late and after that 10 dollars a day so if you take 20 days to pay would 250 dollars late fee
