    Teen dating and age gaps
This question is directed towards parents and guardians of teens. I'm curious about what you feel is an acceptable age difference when it comes to your teen dating. I'm not referring to age they start dating, sexual age of consent or legalities, just wondering what your personal comfort level I or what you thinkis socially acceptable.

Generally, I would limit it to a 2 yr gap. Closer when younger, more flexible when older.

But there are really no hard and fast rules for this. There are too many factors, maturity, trust, how well you know the partner your child is dating and many more.

I agree with Scott 2 years is a fair difference, After that, esp in Jr high or High School, the maturity levels, the areas of interest and just the ability of a older person to be more controlling is a higher risk.

I have to agree, there is no set in stone rule (for me at least) age gap means NOTHING to me pretty much. Its all about the 'maturity age'

    I mean, a 15/16 year old dating a 19/20 year old isn't a big deal to me.

But a 10/11 year old with a 14/15 year old, IS a big deal to me. Because of the maturity difference.

A 15 yr old with a 20 yr old is probably illegal in most places,

Its not illigal to date no matter what the age.
As long as they aren't having sex.

Lol and don't worry I'm not stupid, at 15 and 20 I doubt they would be abstaining :P
BUT, I would also use my good judgement. Your right 9 times out of 10, 15 and 20 probably wouldn't work. But it potentially could if they really do care about each other and it isn't just some young sexual attraction

Thanks to everyone for their responses. I agree for the most part that age doesn't really matter, however maturity, trust, responsibility etc... all play a prt in the decision of whether a parent is comfortable. Up until recently I thought no more than 2 years but my oppinions have changed based on several factors, at least as far as the boy my daughter is dating goes. So thanks again =D
