Installed a harbor ceiling fan with light kit, no remote. Light works with wall switch but when I pull the chain for fan usage the light kit turns and the fan does not work.. what have I done wrong?

How many wires in the ceiling box? How did you wire the fan and light? You should have 1 hot lead, black in, switched by the wall switch, tied to fan black and fan blue. Are you sure the supply wire is not a switch loop?

Tell us what wires you have in the ceiling box. If pulling the fan chain turns the light on, you have a defective fan/light. Are you sure you are pulling the fan chain and not the light chain.

Is it safe for us to assume there was a light fixture hung from the ceiling before? Please answer the guys if you can.
