I blew an outlet in my kitchen how do I fix it myself?
OK so I blew an outlet in my kitchen it's the only one blown. I was making banana pudding with my little mixer thing and all of a sudden there was a loud pop! And a kind of spark... Now my outlet doesn't work... Can I fix it myself? If so how? Thanks for the info!:) Kali

Go get a replacement outlet. Turn off the power in your home at the breaker box. Use a screwdriver to unscrew the original outlet. Carefully look at how the wire are attached to the outlet. Then duplicate the wiring with the new outlet. Place back in the wall and put cover on. Then go turn on the breakers. Your outlet should work. I've changed them myself and I'm a little old lady. Not that hard to do.

You could first go and look to see if the breaker was tripped. If it was tripped try resetting it and see if that is your problem. You just may have overdone the breaker. I always do that before changing any switch or outlet.

Did you recently have an electrical storm in your area? I had one of my kitchen light switches go during a recent storm as I have a huge tree just outside my home that obviously gets a lot of electrical strikes. I had a coffeemaker blow out (but not the outlet) and it was turned off. Now I have surge protectors even on my coffee makers.

Does the outlet have little "TEST" and "RESET" buttons?
If so, unplug mixer and press reset button. If not, go to breaker panel and reset breaker.
