I have had guardenship of my nephew since before he was 1. My sister has decided she wants me to adopt him but the father will not sign over his rights is this possible?

    **Moved from Adoption**

    As a general rule, no.

You must have permission from BOTH parents for an adoption to happen.

There is a remote possibility of getting the father's rights terminated under certain conditions. Like if he is a danger to them or makes no attempt to support them financially or emotionally.

Your best bet is to consult a local attorney and give them the whole set of facts. They will be able to judge what the possibility of getting the adoption without the father's permission. But it's a long shot.

Did the father fight the guardianship, will the father want to come and fight to get custody of the children ?

Would father show up in court if you fought to adopt.

Do you have 10 to 15 thouand dollars for attorneys to fight for the adoption if the father does not agree
