My aunts two female dogs started fighting really bad after one of them was bred they had been like bestfriends for months before she was bred. She is a mini dachshound and is about 2 years old. My aunt said she should be about 2-3 weeks. She asked me to take her dog while she was pregnant and help her get rid of the puppies and then give her back her dog and hopefully she will get along with the other female dog. My aunt has not taken her to the vet but I asked her to please make an appointment because I do not believe she is pregnant. I have been doing research on it sense I got her lastnight. I want to make sure that I take care of her corectly so nothing goes wrong if she is pregnant. Anyway her nipples are larger but her tummy is small and firm. I know that the pregnancy laster for about 63 days but when do they start showing? Any advice on this would be wonderful!

Addressing the question at hand: The first few symptoms include a decreased appetite, a sudden decrease in activity, nipple growth, and behavioral changes. They also tend to become more affectionate and tires easily and she will probably prefer to be alone.

Within the next few weeks she will develop a tightened abdomen, her appitite will return and she will rapidly gain weight. You will definitley notice her growth as she is a smaller breed.

Pregnant dogs need pre natal care, (especially for the inexperienced) just like humans. Smaller dogs tend to have more complicated pregnancies, and sometimes require c sections, especially so if the male was a larger breed that the female.

I am morally compelled to point out how irresponsible and how horrible back yard breeding is, please do this dog a favor and surrender it to someone who can care for her. She deserves better. Tell your aunt to get her animals spayed or neutered. So many puppies, kitten, adult dogs and cats are killed every day due to neglectful, irresponsible pet owners like she.
