    Social Security Withholding
I was recently laid off. When I applied for unemployment, my case worker informed me that there was no record of my having worked for my last employer. This was because she never filed (or posted) the social security wages she withheld from each of my paychecks (spanning from March 1st to August 1). Consequently, my entitlement is much lower than it should be.

I've tried to contact her, but she continues to ignore me.

What legal recourse do I have to encourage her to get off her butt and deposit my money with the State?

    Thanks!

She is probably not answering you because her bookkeeping practices are circumspect to the point where she is trying to make her company bank account look good.

Report her to the Department of Labour; report her to the your case worker. She/he knows what is going on but doesn't want to take the initiative to get this problem settled, and you are the fall guy in all of this.

The firm is of course suppose to be paying into the unemployment taxes. You should have your check stubs to prove you were paid and had earnings.

Next of course, file a dispute with unemployment and file against them with the department of labor.

You will have a more serious issue if they did not pay your income tax money in

Apologies! Laziness on my part; I just did NOT check your profile.

    Lewis:

Fr. Chuck raises some good points, so a phone call to the IRS may be in order.
