Badly cut up gums due to a crown prep.
    Hello,

I just got my tooth drilled down a smaller size in preparation for a crown. When they did it, it hurt the gums a lot. And when I finally got home later, I was really angry that about 1 mm all around the tooth, was a very scabby red, bloody swollen line along the gum line. I have never had dentists prep me for a crown and mess up my gums like this. The dentist didn't think anything of it at the time (I also didn't notice it until later). Are my gums going to heal? They look terrible right now and are sore.

    Thank you very much.

Gum tissue heals very quickly, you should be fine. Call the dentist and ask about an antiseptic rinse or salt water.

Okay thanks. I just hope it does not look scarred or have a jagged line when it heals. Why do you suppose dentists do that? My other dentist does not at all. Is it a more modern tool they need? I wish I could tell them to find a way to not tear up the gum when they do crown preps, as other dentists know how not to. Anyway, thanks.
