My mum was cremated and myself and my older sister had been denied access to the funeral arrangements my other 2 sisters picked up our mums ashes from the funeral directors and there have been no arrangents made as to when they will be buried. No, they do not have the right to keep your mothers ashes fron you, the ashes should be put in a place which was special to her and which all four of you can access, coming from a family of 5 children, I understand the confusion and I wish that this will help you sort your differences x

First of all, my sincerest and deepest condolences on the loss of your mother. I'm very sorry for this hole in your heart.

One question: Who denied you access to the funeral arrangements? You are absolutely within your legal rights to have access to the funeral arrangements and the funeral home/director should have asked if all children were informed re your mother's ashes. My best advice is to petition the court for a portion for yourself and your sister. You merely call the clerk's office at you're the county courthouse and they will help you. You will then get a court order from them. All you need is your birth certificate and an announcement of your mother's death from the newspaper. If your sisters continue to refuse, the police will get it for you.

I'm SO sorry that on top of such immense grief that you have to deal with this as well. People act very strangely when someone dies and I'm hoping your other siblings' heart's soften before you have to go through that, but you can tell them that, by law, you are allowed a portion of your mother's ashes. Who was paying for the cremation and the funeral arrangements ? That is the person or persons the funeral home would have listened to. Is there a place near all of you where the ashs can be laid to rest? Like a crematorium ? Also depending on local law you would have to have a permit to keep the ashs so splitting it up is out of the question.
