Had a new moen kitchen two handle faucet with a hand held wand installed yesterday. It replaced a seven year old single hanlde delta with a hand held wand. When either hot or cold water is turned on and either handle is turned up for more water flow, you hear a thump noise. This does not happen all the time, moslty when you first start the faucet. It also appears the water flow even with both hot and cold handles turned all the way up, is much less than with the single handle delts. I know the installer needed two flex hoses because of the separate handles. I do not and have not had any notable low water pressure in my home which was built in 2003.

Your installer should have opened up the valves, placed a pan over the open valve and flushed out the supplies and open valve body. There's always some trash that breaks loose when you install a new faucet. This may be as simple as pulling the aerator and cleaning the screen. Let me know what you find. Good luck, Tom

Thanks for your response. I'll have to say that I think he must has flushed out the valve lines, because the dude had water spraying all over him from I suppose the open valve lines? He did have one ****ens of a time doing the job, so he will "not" be hired again. Where is this aerator tip and how easy/hard is it to remove? Help I already paid for the job and asked him re the problem and he states, nothing I did.

Just because your guy was sloppy enough to get himself soaked, ( Are you sure you hired a real plumber? Because I'm not!
A aerator's the little thingy (se image) on the end of the spout. Unscrew it and turn the water on without it. Pressure better? If so do not take it apart but run water back through the aerator to flush out the screen. Reinstall the aerator and test. If that don't get it I'll need the model number of your valve and we'll go to plan "B" Good luck, Tom

Hi cat. First thing I would do is look under the sink and make sure there is no water leaking when the fuacet is turned on. If the spray hose connection on the bottom side of the sink is leaking, it will cause a thumping noise due to the diverter in the faucet opening and closing quickly. If no leaks, unscrew the aerator from the end of the spout where the water comes out, clean and reinstall, as Tom suggested.
All that being said, some fuacets will make a bit of a thud from the diverter when the water is turned on. Just the nature of some beast. Good luck and please let us know what you find.

PS. By all rights, the plumber should come back free of charge and check things out. This is what we real plumbers call a "call back". I would raise hell with the installing company. Do know however, that may new faucets are restricted down to a low gallon per minute flow. So the flow issue may not be fixable, but maybe the noise is. Really all depends.

@ speedball and mygirl's Dad: Appreciate you both. I am knew at using this forum so please be patient with me. I did remove the aerator thingy and it was dirty. The water flow is much better now. I did check under the sink with the water running for a while and did not see any apparent leaks. I still hear the thump noise and if I have to live with that so be it. The installer is "not a plumber." I will hire a plumber for plumbing work from now on, even if it is expensive. If I am replying in the right format, please let me know how to stay on the same thread and reply. Sorry again for the novice that I am.
P.S. I have e-mailed the installer and told him what I have learned and asked him for his perspective on what was shaed with me. I do not want to be little anyone, however, he should come back and check things out.

I got a respond from the installer and he states the faucet came right out of the box and the lines were new and the faucet was not put down anything, just connected to the water lines. He stated that what speedball stated was not anything he did not already know and do. Still does not offer to come back to check things out. Last time he will do work in this home. Live and learn I suppose. I had a handyman who did work for me when I lived in my prior home. He worked for me for over 20 years and was very well versed in plumbing, electrical work, and just about everything else. If things were not to my satisfaction, he would come back and make it right. I was so spoiled and he is so honest.

If this clown flushed the valve body what was all the dirt doing in the aerator screen? I don't believe him! Regards, Tom

This isn't a question, but a comment. Ten years or so back my Dad had a plumber come in to remove a defunct disposal. I recall the plumber saying "If you decide to get another one, don't call me." Folks have since passed on. About a week ago I decided that I'd finally remove the now-defunct Insta-Hot, replace the single-handle faucet and its sprayer (they leaked, and I am not fond of single-handle faucets), and install a disposal.
Initially, I picked up a Moen two-handle high-arc with sprayer. Installed it and the disposal over the course of a week (re-routed the drain line, installed new trap and fittings, etc.) The Moen unit was hideous. Turning on even a partial flow caused the pipes to thump about every two to three seconds along with severe leakage at the spray connector. Took it apart, tried again; no good. Finally went to a local Lowe's, bought a new Delta for about fifty dollars more than the Moen. It works perfectly. The quality of construction of the Delta is far above that of the Moen faucet. Should I have need or desire to replace another faucet, I'll select Delta.

Thanks for your opinion Ron. The Moen, Delta, American Standard, etc debate is much like Chevy, Ford, Dodge etc. They really are all well built, but almost everybody likes one over the others.
