    Breaking a lease
My husband suffered a massive heart attack in April the apartment we are in does not have bathing facilities on our first floor we need to go to other homes to take showers & he sleeps in our dining room because he will never be able to climb stairs which is where our bedroom is located will this allow us to break the lease since he is not safe at this time to be in this apartment.

    Hello rena:

No. But, it's a very good reason why the landlord SHOULD let you out of it. Maybe if you sweeten the deal with an extra months rent, he'd go for it.

I agree, a lease doesn't "break" because something bad happens to one of the parties. In your situation the LL may be willing to allow some arrangement such as continue to pay until he gets a new tenant. Make him an offer to buy yourself out of the lease but do not start talking to him as though you think you can just walk away, that will make him less agreeable to a buy out.

I wish it did, and it should from a moral standpoint, But from a legal standpoint, no it is not a reason.

You need to go talk to the landlord since perhaps they will do the right thing to help
