Ask Me Help Desk - I have a legal question

I just stared a new job about two weeks ago Yesterday I got my w4 paper and employment agreement that they wanted me to sign I just went throw it real quickly because I was still working when I read something that didn't sit right with me when I asked the doctor that I worked for he said that I had to ask the owner of the practices who I only see once a week (Monday) I said okay. I gave them my w4 and the other info they needed but I didn't give them the Employment Agreement I wanted to read it a little more and I wanted to ask the questions I had so when I got to work this morning one of the doctors I worked for said "Hey do you a key to the office" I said no I don't "he said okay well you are no longer an employ with us sorry it didn't work out" I asked why and he said I don't know check your email so I did and this is what the owner of the practices send me:

It is company policy at APCMD that all employees sign the employment agreement. Since you have failed to sign the employment agreement today, we are unable to allow you to work for us. Your last day was therefore 8.16.11.
Thank you and good luck with your endeavors.
We will send your pay check to the address you filled out on your w4.

Is this legal I mean I just wanted to get some question answered I would understand if I had this employment Agreement for two weeks but I only had it for a few hrs. Do I need a lawyer?

You didn't say what country and state this was in... but in most of the USA... if you aren't in a Union, or have a specific contract... you are considered an at-will employee, and thus... yes they can do that... particularly after only 2 weeks. Its employment at your will and their will... they really don't need any reason... but you gave them one.

You didn't say what it was in the agreement you didn't like.

It might be too late, but if you have had a chance to review whatever it was, and you can live with it, now might be the time to sign it, give it to them and ask if you can now keep the job.

Think about it, would you really like to keep working for these guys if this is how they act. Yep, they can let you go, I'd make sure the door didn't hit me on the way out.

The deal is, that is the agreement, if you don't sign it, they don't deal or alter it just for you. So it was not a take this home and bring it back, it was sign it, if you did not agree to the terms, you option was not to work there.

Understand, it was not a option, it was not a offer to discuss, it was what they do and you were signing you got a copy of it.

Yep, I am surprised you lasted the day you did not sign it, In most places you would have basically just been asked to leave when you did not.
