Have you dewormed your pup? Does your dog eat much raw hide bones? Another cause can be too much calcium in the diet, so you may want to check his food. Do you feed a BARF diet?

If they are other wise healthy, you buy a high quality chow and put it down and walk away. A healthy dog will NOT starve themselves, but they will test you to the limit, and yes if you give in, then they will only hold out longer.

Agree with the above, more information is needed such as diet and general health.

Would you sit down and eat a bowl of brussel sprouts if you had been given nothing but candy?
    They are spoiled ;)

As Bella said, put the food down and walk away. If they don't eat it within 15 minutes pick it up.
Sounds cruel, but they will soon learn that if they don't eat what is given to them, they get nothing at all.

I had one very fussy puppy here who would eat nothing but raw beef, he would even eat beef mince, it had to be chopped steak!
Eventually I got fed up with spending so much money on prime cuts of meat for the dog I started introducing dry food as a treat, making a big deal about giving him just a small piece.
He wasn't happy the first time he was offered a bowl of it but after a day or 2 he realized it wasn't so bad.

Usual cause is bones in the diet... they get chewed to little pieces and form very hard, dry stool. Another cause is a liver/gall bladder problem. As has been suggested, a trip to the vet may be the best solution.
