My Dachshunds is very skinny, every one of their ribs are showing. They gulp their food down and drink massive amounts of water , but are very energetic. So, they aren't gaining any weight. Please help They a making themselves sick. Its hard to watch.

Have they been de-wormed? When a pup has a belly full of worms, they tend to gulp and bloat, but they don’t retain much nutrients because the worms get most of it. What has your vet said about the weight of your pups? A lot of puppies don't know proper eating manners. One thing that has always helped me, was to put the food in muffin tins. It takes them longer to get all their food. Another thing to consider is the type of food you are feeding. A lot of commercial brand foods are high in slat and fillers, so they tend to drink more, and since it’s filled with nothing but fillers, they don’t gain the weight they should. Make sure to feed a high quality puppy chow until they are at least 12 months.

I agree. Why are they so thirsty, unless they don't have access to water all day?
Really 'skinny' doxies have very obvious backbones, too... probably more so than ribs.
