Do I need to call an electrician or a plumber? I'm assuming it's dangerous.

If the water that comes out of the spout or leaves by the drain,starts by itself, need a plumber.

If the pump for the jets start, then need an electrician.

Need more information, Does tub have air switch or wall switch or both? Either one could be the problem. If it is a electrical problem I would think breaker would trip but would not 100% rely on that. I would try a plumber first. If there is access to the motor, which by code there should be, unplug motor or if tub is on GFI trip it until problem is fixed.

If I had to make a guess it would be a faulty air switch.
Have it checked and replaced if necessary. Good luck, Tom

The tub has a button that you press (near the top of the tub) to start the whirlpool. That is the only way to start up the whirlpool. No wall switch.

If you're handy and the front apron's removable I can see no reason for you to do the replacement. Be sure to turn off the power at the breaker box before you start. Good luck, Tom

Replace Air Switch Button first before you proceed with replacing anything else. Also, check the air tube connecting Air Switch Box and Air Switch Button for kinks... Milo

Agree you're very helpful!! Now to get my husband to work on it... Of course after having to run down to the breaker may have inspired him. This seems to happen when one leans against the back spouts too long (from reading in the tub if that's not too much information). Does that tell you more whether it's the switch or the air tube?
