    Pvc pipe keeps coming apart
I keep changing a piece of pvc pipe attached to my water filer it keeps blowing apart either at the elbow or water filter. I used primer before the cement and let it set overnight still keeps blowing apart after I turn the water back on. What am I doing wrong?

Is there any pressure in the pipe or is it used as a spout?
When a PVC ppipe and fitting is primed and cemented the glue melts the two to form a weld. What brand of primer and cement are you using? Do you let it set up and cure or do you run water through it after a short while? This happens often when two fittings are glued together without proper priming. All primer does is take the glaze off the PVC. Try this. Next time you glue don't use primer instead take some sandcloth or paper and rough up the pipe and fitting before cementing. Give it some time to set up and cure. Good luck and let me know how you make out. Tom

If you have PVC pipe you must use PVC glue. If you are using CPVC pipe you must use CPVC glue. There is a multipurpose glue but since you are having problems use the glue made for the pipe.

James, I have never seen a filter that allowed direct pvc welds to the filter housing. Normally you install a male threaded pvc adaptor and then weld to that. Did you weld pvc directly into the filter body? It may not be made of pvc.

The filter body may be polypropylene. You can't solvent cement it. Every filter body at HD and Lowe's has a 1/2 or 3/4 IP thread. As far as the elbow goes, is it PVC or CPVC?
