    Ptsd relapses
I've lost my girlfriend at the age of 16. She passed away from leukemia when she was also 16. It has been extremely traumatic for me even though almost 2 years has passed since then. My counsellor said I've ptsd and through out the 2 years, I've been experiencing relapses after relapses. I couldn't help it... my friends and family are very supportive and concerned for me though... but it's not easy to push back the past. I get nightmares easily when I experience these relapses. I get also get rather temperamental as well. I've seek counselor's help. But it's not helping me to totally cure ptsd. What should I do?? :/:confused:

What you need to do is get over it. Man up and decide how you want your life to be. Living in the past is no way to make a future. Only you yourself can decide to take the steps needed to get past this. Its no longer about your girlfriend its about you. Was it terrible - yes. But this is most likely the first of many losses. Is this how you want to run your life? If every time you hit a crisis point you just dwell on it until others near you push away then your not going to live much of a life. You have memories and you can hold her in your heart forever but that doesn't mean you stop living. Everyone is different and everyone grieves different but there is a point you have to move on. Its not about forgetting nor is it about reliving the past. Its about moving forward.

    Its your choice.

PTSD is not a common diagnosis in relation to what would more commonly be considered grief therapy. I'm always concerned when psychiatric labels are attached to emotional disturbance unnecessarily. Nonetheless, your therapist should have a complete personal history that may justify a diagnosis. Or perhaps there's something you omitted.

Since you have previously committed to therapy and it isn't working you might consider looking for a different therapist utilizing a different approach--if it's not working, don't keep doing it.

I have no specific advice on PTSD as that diagnosis doesn't follow from the circumstances you describe.
