How can I tell if I have dermatillomania?
I picked off the hard skin on the sole of my foot the other day and it is so sore... ive got depression and slight anxiety and I heard that this can all be linked, I'm drawn to biting my finger nails and picking my toe nails and ill pick off scabs if there are any on my body. I also read that people with this will pick spots and pick at ingrown hairs. I actually seem to fit this as I will cause myself scars from doing this. Does this sound like this or could it be something else

Dermatillomania, aka Compulsive Skin Picking (CSP) is very poorly understood. Following is a website that provides some general information, while it relates to pediatric cases, the behavioral description applies to all age groups. Please read this and see how it fits:

There is one article from Physician's Academy providing a little more precision in relation to assessment:

I am constantly picking at my scalp and cannot seem to stop. I don't know whether this is dermatillamania or not but I just can't stop picking until I get scabs and then I pick the scabs and they scar. I think I might have a small bald patch. I do it without realizing, my parents are constantly telling me to stop, it makes them angry. Do I have dermatillamania?
