Tonight I noticed a red raw spot on Owen's front paw. It is not bleeding. There does not appear to be anything in it. He will let me touch it but not a long time. He will then appear irritated like I am bothering him. I texted Binx and she has no clue. She asked me some questions and here are my answers.
It does not appear infected.
He is still eating, drinking, playing, etc etc.
My best description of it is it is like a wart that is red and raw. It is a bump that is somewhat hard.


Owen does have allergies and his paws do get red when he gets into stuff he should not be( I swear he can hear food hit the floor from miles away). This is the only spot he has. In fact due to allergies we have to give him a weekly bath with his shampoo and wash between his toes daily with the shampoo.

The issue with the chin is starting to clear up since we put alcohol on his chin. I mention this due to the fact it was close together and am unsure if related or not.

Guess we need to know if he needs to see a vet? Or if we keep it clean and watch it? Or??

As for the bump it could be allergy related, or it could be exactly what you described it as... a wart. Does it look like one single wart or does it have cauliflower appearance?

When you give him his bath, add a little epsom salts to the bath water. This won't affect his allergies, it may even help ;) You can also buy Vitamin E capsules and break one open on the wart, I would do this once or twice a day. If it is in fact a wart, it's caused by the canine papilloma virus, which isn't deadly and 99% of the warts are benign. But Mogrann, take a look at his gums and tongue and cheeks to make sure it hasn't spread into the mouth.

Remember the advice I give can not replace that of your vets, and you should have any medical issues looked at by a vet :)

TY Aurora. I will get him into the vet to get this looked at. Hopefully this pay depends on what happens with hubbys sister as she just got admitted to hospital and they are saying days to weeks. Depends if she wakes up or not. Life sucks lately!

I honestly wouldn't rush right off to the vet, now this is JUST my opinion and not advice or what ever at all lol. I would wait, if it is wart, the usually clear up on their own in a few weeks. Is it like a blister? Filled with fluid? Or solid? If she started limping, not eating getting sick or diarrhea or any other sudden or drastic changes than I would get to the vet asap.

I'm sorry for Hubby's sister, I hope things turn around for you guys, sorry for the bad luck. :(

Thank you for the clarification as we are tying to find money for the trip home. Sigh... I would find the money for the vet if I had to but it is nice to know it is not an emergency and to keep an eye on it. We just need a couple of pay checks to get caught up on and then no more credit for me... cash or I don't get it!!

It is not like a blister with a covering over it. More like a raw open wound. I did get hubby to check it and he is saying it is not like a stick poked him. That is what I thought at first. It is raised and a hard bump but not bleeding. When hubby gets home I will get him to put the pic on my computer so I can post on here.
For sure if he goes off his food, or limps etc he will go to the vet. I am not the type to not go to the vet. I just know my personality and I do worry about the littlest things at times. I value you experts here and your advice and will listen to you guys.
Latest update on her is not good so please keep binx, my sister in law and myself in your prayers/good wishes(whatever your beliefs are).

Go to Wal mart (if youc an) pick up a bag of epsom salt, usually about $7 and under and put him in the tub and just put enough water to cover the wound, make him stay in there for as long as you can. Dry it with a clean cloth. If you notice him licking it too much, try and distract him.

I'm going to call a solid, raised, reddened bump a neoplasm... new tissue. Also called a tumor, which is simply a swelling. That Owen is licking it is almost to be expected... it is new and he is licking at it, as we do with a little 'sore' on the inner surface on our cheek. Just can't keep our tongue off it, can we?

Some of these tumors will go away on their own, some not and are removed because the dog won't leave them alone. A small percent of them may be malignant, BUT all need to be checked to catch the few that are malignant. Visual diagnosis has it's problems, as some tumors are difficult to impossible to differentiate harmless from malignant. Malignant tumors tend to not cause any traditional signs of 'disease' unless and until they may metastasize or infiltrate surrounding tissues and interfere with normal function. By this time, they are difficult, expensive, or problematic to successfully treat.

I have no more way to say what this is, or is not, than anyone else here, but bring this possibility up because simply is also a possibility. No, you need not rush to the vet. But, when possible, have it checked, unless it does go away.
