E-Filing for Non resident Aliens with L1 Visa
    Hi,
I am from INDIA. My Stay period for the Year 2006 in USA is less than 183 days, I am with L1 work Visa. Can use the Free e-file service from IRS. If not can I use 1040EZ instead of 1040NREZ? If I have to use only 1040NREZ for how much standard deduction I am eligible to?

My employer has also withheld my Social security taxes and taxes on medicare and CASDI as others. I don't know what CASDI means. What is the process to get these money back? I do not have any other form except W-2 from my employer.

    Thanks in Advance
    Sunil

    Sunil:

Given that your employer is withholding FICA taxes, it appears that your income is subject to U.S. income taxes. However, unless you are married and you and your wife choose to file as resident aliens (making your foreign-based income also subject to U.S. taxes), you need to file as a non-resident alien.

In either case, you CANNOT file electronically, as certain statements have to be filed with a joint return, and a non-resident tax return (Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ) cannot be electrnocially filed.

    Sorry!
