I need to remove the light fixture on a hampton bay fan.

Not difficult but a mdel number would help. Shut off the breaker, not just the switch to the ceiling box. There should be 3-4 screws just above the light fixture attaching a canopy like fixture to the base of the fan motor. Tell us about the wires you find. A cap should be put in place of the light fixture, or another light. Without the cap it could be dangerous abd certainly not poretty. A replacement cap that matches will be like finding chicken teeth

Light fixture or light globe? If it's the globe, most of the newer flatter units are released by carefully pushing up on the globe and twisting to the left. Other wise, follow Bobs reply.
