1st offense felony class D (fraud)
I got caught cashing a bad money order of over 1000 dollars but I have no record , and I turned myself in. how much time do you think I will serve? They call it a class D felony. But remember this is my 1st felony. I've never been in trouble with the law before.

What state did this happen in? I know where I live (Texas), my friend who had no record committed fraud by cashing fake checks that equal to 2000 plus dollars and she had counterfit money. She got lucky because she was an 18 year old GIRL with no record and they dropped the charges to class A misdemeanors. A Class D Felony in the lowest on the totem poll so there is some luck with that happening... get a good lawyer. If you don't have the money you will get a court appointed lawyer and hopefully he does his job. My friend had to sit 5 months in county jail and then she got on probation for 2 years. It really does matter what state it happened in... I have read about much harsher punishments per state. I know this doesn't help much, but I wanted to let you know what can happen. It really depends on a lot of things.

    Hello young person:

Natalie is right. It depends on LOTS of things, very few of which were supplied by you.. That's OK. Even if you DID tell us everything a judge would know, we STILL wouldn't have clue what's in his mind...

The BEST for you at this point, is hire a lawyer, or wait till one is appointed, and speak to him... DON'T talk to the cops anymore and DON'T sign anything.
