Can a guarantor be removed after a year even though i still live in the property
hi I am really hoping you can help me, I have lived in a rented property for about 4 years I went through an estate agent called "your move" I signed a contract for a year with my uncle and aunty standing guarantor they signed one too. That was for the first year after that there I have not signed any more contracts and my uncle and aunty have not either it has just been a gentlemen's agreement between myself and the landlord. I have been struggling to pay rent on time and have fallen behind into arrears and it is starting to come to a point where they are threatening with eviction and if I cannot come up with x amount and have to leave the property do my uncle and aunty still count as guarantors even though there contract has expired and have to pay the arrears in full if I am evicted?

Do you have the original contract? If so then you need to read it carefully. Some contracts have an automatic extension on them unless notification is given. If this is th case then they will be forced to pay what you don't. They will be liable for the full bill including legal fees if it goes to eviction.

It would be like having a cosigner on a car.

Normally yes, they would be, only the written contract would say exactly but my educated guess would be yes they are still liiable.
