I have a kichler fan. Sis had a harbor breeze universal remote but it won't seem to operate my fan. Is there certain dip switch settings I need? If so how can I get them? I have googled the remote model # to no avail

Universal remoters don't start knowing all of the codes needed to run a fan. Remotes are "trainable" but freqently require the original remote to send a signal.
Correct. You have to match the frequency of the remote to that of the receiver. Do so and it should work. You will have to try different dip switch combinations.
