I have a submersible pump in my 4" casing. The well is 155' and the screen is set at 145'. The well puts out 12 GPM. I have very salty water and a lot of methane gas in it. When the pump is running I can see a lot of bubbles in the filter which I have always had (11 years). My problem is I can't maintain a good pressure of 40-60 psi. I had a 30-50 pressure switch and replaced it with a 40-60 pressure switch which did not help. I have a whole house R.O. which needs at least 40 psi to operate. The pump can no longer keep up with the R.O. and the R.O. is starving for water. The pump only gets up to about 28 psi.

If you have a lot of methane and see bubbles, you are trying to compress the gas and will have difficulty ever getting adequate pressure. Methane is not soluble and will stay in the gas phase.

I have had this issue with the gas since I built in 2001 and have been able to get up my pressure.I always thought it was dangerous. I can turn on my faucet, hold a lighter next to the running water and get bursts of flame in my sink larger than a basketball. The water is extremely salty and I found a good deal on a whole house RO. I have had the RO for 3-4 years and had 45psi. Pretty amazing since I go through 40 gallons of well water to make 1 gallon of fresh water. I have an atomizer on the downstream side of the R O. So when the water enters the holding tank the gas is separated from the water and I vent it outside. I am concerned the well may be running dry or my well pump may be dying.

It could be the pump. However, I have had the same pump since 2002 and it just keeps on going. I'm in the North GA mountains, 200 ft. deep, 100ft from a river and in hard rock. Never had a methane issue but do have iron. Are you in PA, AL or WVA?. Methane is associated with coal deposit.

No, I'm on the east side of Michigan. I'm concerned about how often the well pump comes on and how long it runs to feed my RO.
