My girlfriend of 1 year left me last night. She said she needed to sort her life out before we could be together. She promised me though that she loves me and will be back. We even had a final kiss sort of thing.

I'm really heartbroken, nothing seems to ease the hurt. Has anyone any advice on what I should do?

Break ups suck, but do 30 days of NO Contact whatsoever, and enjoy doing your own thing without her, with family, friends, and some activities you enjoy. You will recover, just go back to what you were doing before you met her.

Just know that the hurt is fresh, and it will be tough to overcome for a while. That's why break ups suck.

You need to give her space.
You weren't very specific on what 'sort her life out' entailed, and whether that's because she wasn't specific with you either I don't know, but if she's asked for a break then you need to give her it, because you can't force someone to stay with you against their will.

This might be her way of getting out of a relationship she doesn't want to be in, or she may geniunely not want to drag you into any problems she has in her life at the moment, but I think you need to send her one final message before giving her space, saying that you love her, and that you are willing to help her through any problems she may have, but that you will need closure and you can't wait forever.

Because it's true, you can't spend your whole life waiting for someone who isn't ready to be with you for whatever reason. It's not fair on you and not fair on them because even if you don't mean to, you'll put pressure on them.

Give her a few weeks after sending this message, and if she still isn't wanting to come back to you, I'd try and move on. It's not fair for you to stay in limbo for so long.
