The fan should turn in the direction the fan blades are designed to turn. Looking at the top of the fan with one blade straight up. If the left side of the blade is high and slanting down to right then the fan turns clockwise and if the right side is high slanting down to left then it is counter-clockwise. If the fan is not turning in the correct rotation some fan motors are reversible and have four wires that are changed around to reverse the rotation. If you cannot reverse the motor then take off the fan blade and go to the parts store and buy one with the correct rotation and pitch. Make sure to tell the parts man the horsepower and rotation of the motor from either the shaft end or lead end. If you have a shaded pole motor you can just take the motor apart and reverse the housing and this will reverse the rotation of the motor; in fact, many motors can be reversed this way. It depends on how it is designed. DrTom4444

When you wrote your post you did not say if you had an air conditioner or refrigerator. If it is a refrigerator you only need to change the fan blade if your new motor is turning in the wrong direction. Those little fan motors cannot be reversed. Usually, the fan pushes air away from the motor. Drtom4444
