What if I fail to respond to a request for discovery in a civil lawsuit?
Can the plaintiff get a default judgement?

A default judgment occurs when you do not respond to any communications in reference to a suit or you do not show up for the hearing. Not responding to a request for discovery but showing up for the hearing will probably get you scolded by the court initially and the case postponed. A second time ignoring the discovery request would probably get them a default judgment.
