I just received a call from a collection agent in Vancouver. They tell me I have two traffic offences from 1994 in Manitoba. I can not remember anything about this. I haven't lived in Manitoba since 1995 when I moved to another country for a year. I moved back to Canada in 1996.
Does this seem right to pay?

I don't know. I'm surprised warrants weren't issued instead of referring the matter to collection.

Ask for proof of the debt.

The traffic offenses will be a part of the court records in the part of Vancouver where you violated. They will have the date of your offense, and that you were found guilty in absentia. If there is no court record, I would say that it is a scam, and one that has been making the rounds more and more frequently.

Sorry... that should be: the part of Manitoba where the violation took place. I reversed Manitoba and Vancouver.
