A new? Initiative to combat unemployment
Seems good ideas migrate in ways unexpected. The British government has taken a leaf out of the Australian book and will reform their welfare to work initiatives. I think they are being a bit draconian in their implementation but you cannot fault their zeal
UK takes up Howard's welfare plan
The US should also consider such initiatives. We have been discussing job creation in another thread and deficit funding in another but nowhere have I heard an argument for practical measures to tackle deficits because the obvious turnaround comes from getting people into employment and nothing motivates the mind of the Job service like bonuses for successful placement and nothing motivates the public service like your job being put out to tender

Sounds great; where are these jobs?
If we could just speed up global warming we'd be needing tons of unskilled labor building seawalls. Supposedly will be the # 1 job in 50 years but parts of the world are already having to build them/

Now that is an initiative we could start right away it just needs some machinery, dump trucks and quarrying, good working class jobs and you can do it all over the country

Good idea, start now, it'll be easier and we know it's going to happen, so why not? We could even extend them out into the ocean for more prime real estate, and bring some mountains down to the sea as landfill. No buildings allowed, though, only national campgrounds, but at a steep price. We will need a Seawall Czar.

Perhaps you could use one of the less successful current czars like the one from FEMA or one from Civil Aviation, this would be more in line with what they can handle. I love painting rocks white programs and this is as good as any and if you need expertise in building the walls ask the guy from Dubai who built theirs you might get some innovative designs better still appoint him czar
