I am fourteen and want to get a job at a shop or other in burton upon trent anyone know were I can get a job and I DO NOT want any replies saying " YOUR TO YOUNG " OR "WHAT DO YOU NEED A JOB FOR " well here's your answer I want a job to pass time and get some cash so please can you reply also I would prefer a job including textiles or bakery

There is very little you would be allowed to do due to the LAW as you are too young.
Little things like paper rounds, dog walking or car washing is about your limit until you are 16.

Well my school told me I can work in shops and offices helping etc so I don't think that's the limit

How tall are you? How fast can you type?

What about seeing if the library has a need for someone to help with processing materials before they go on the shelf? Someone has to put the labels and stickers and markings on audio books, music CDs, DVDs, and all those new books.

I'm five foot two and not that fast a typing but I would prefer a jib in shops and stuff like that as I don't have a library very close to me and it would be hard to get to

As I live in ENGLAND, in fact not all that far from Burton, I know the employment laws involved.
Therefore an apology would be in order.

Children and young people under school leaving age (England and Wales only)

There are strict limits to the hours children and young people under school leaving age (see under heading General rules on employment) are allowed to work. You must not work:-

During school hours on any school day
For more than two hours on any school day or for more than 12 hours in any week in which you are required to go to school
For more than two hours on a Sunday
For more than eight hours (five hours if you are under 15) on any day which is not a school day or a Sunday
Before 7am or after 7pm
For more than 35 hours (25 if you are under the age of 15) in any week in which you are not required to go to school
For more than four hours in any day without a break of one hour
At any time, if during the 12 months beginning 1 January, working means that you have not had two uninterrupted weeks of holiday from school.

I am not aware of anything which states you cannot work in a shop. However, with such limitations in place you will probably find in practice that the majority of shops will prefer to employ people who are a little older and can work the hours they want covering.

In my experience the best way to find a part-time job is to visit places you like the look of and ask. Do get your parents' permission first though.

You started your post by telling us what not to say, and went on to be abrupt with Curlyben who was giving you his honest opinion. Ask yourself if you would like to be served in a shop by someone who comes across as rude and abrupt and have a think about how you could work on that before the job hunting or you will not be maximising your chances.
