i get a smell when i run my washer
we are on city water and I get a horrible smell when I turn on the water to my washing machine
machine is 2 years old. House is 6 months old...
smell is present for only 30=40 seconds or so... hot or cold
it doesn't matter... then it goes away and smells normal
I had the city check for sulfur... no sulfur was found... they said that it did not smell like sulfur to them... it smell like rotton eggs to me
the smell is not present at any other water source ONLY THE WASHER...
and only after it sits for a while... a day or so then it gets that smell... it is like trapped gas that dissipates.
    any ideas... thanks so much

Before you attempt anything else I'd run a cycle without laundry. Set the machine for the largest load, hottest water, no detergent but add about 5 or 6 cups of fresh bleach. Totten egg smell is most frequently assosciated with a bad sacrificial rod in your water heater. Since the smell is not present elsewhere let's see if something isn't growing in the machine itself. Hope this helps.
