Ok, I had a surge protected outlet stop working.

So I went to replace it, when I started, I had power at the outlet.

My helper thought I said turn on the breaker ( I did not) well it gave me a slight shock and a reason to go to confession this week.

After the shock I am not getting any current to the wires

I checked the breaker, still getting power though the breaker and the ground wire for that circuit is secure.

The breaker also works two other outlets, which all work still. ( those outlets do not feed though this outlet, it appears the wire for that circuit splits off and one goes to one outlet, and the other wire goes to another outlet. I have not found that junction box at this time ** it is either under the house, or in the attic.

The wire is a 12/2 insulated. My only thought is it shorted where it splces somewhere,

Any one has another idea or way to check something.

Fr, first thing to look for if there is a GFI receptacle that may serve the outlet with no power that may have tripped.

If not, then there most likely is a loose connection in the circuit, usually at the last working receptacle.

Or a splice came apart in that junction box you have not located yet.

Ok, a hot and itchy evening in the attic, and found that the wires appear to just run to ceiling vent ( which is also not working) and runs on to the other outlet that is working.

This is the first outlet that we are aware of on this circuit.

I thought the wire went from the breaker to the switch though the attic, but it does not appear to do that ( or I could not find the wire.

Tomorrow I head for the cellar and see if I can find a wire there going that way.

Hope you are checking neutrals as well as hots. Don't forget the connections inside the panel.

What a circuit, it goes from the panel to the back bedroom for one outlet, then to the back bathroom for one outlet and bathroom vent, then to the main bathroom for one outlet, and to run the vent.

Yes it had tripped the GFCI in the back bath ( that is not used)

I know personally know most of the wires in the attic and basement to follow it. ** positive note, no junction boxes all wires go from outlet to outlet with no junctions.

Good thing there was a GFI to protect you after someone turned on the power while you were working on it.

A shock can be an easy path to God, or down, as the case may be.

I personally hope to go down, that's where all my friends are.
