Have you checked the DVD for scratches. My Inspiron would not load a DVD O/S because the disc was too scratched up. Once I got a brand new disc I was OK and program loaded zip bang. I figured out the dvd eye was too sensitive. DVD drive OK but eye too sensitive to read scratched discs. I put the scratched disc into my Gateway PC and the disc read fine and dandy.

5 different disks were tried. 2 dell reinstall disks, 2 windows xp disks, 1 Ubuntu 10,1 disk. All stopped loading after a few minuites. Looked at Bios and could not determine anything out of the ordinary. In windows xp, shows : cannot install file: gm.dls

A reddie is NOT fair considering you did NOT state you tried different discs. Have you tried a different DVD drive? The drive may be bad.

Did you run the Dell tool at the boot up to determine hardware problems?

I just love newbies and not giving enough info to make a good answer. They just happily dish out reddies.

Go throw it out the window that may solve your problem, Dude. You have a bad eye in your drive.

Eh, I gave you a bad one at one time due to our misunderstanding so I thought I should repay you here because you certainly did not deserve a negative for asking those questions.
