I am nineteen years old, and my vagina has been very itchy for the past number of months. I used to shave down there, but now I only do my bikini line, because it seemed to make the itching worse. It itches at various points in the day, especially when I'm out in public so I have to duck into a washroom to itch it. I have no discharge, and my vagina smells very normal. I only use Dove soap to wash down there, as it is very gentle.

What could this itchiness be from and how do I stop it?

First step would be to see your doctor to rule out a yeast infection, or any other infection.

The itching could be from the shaving, even though you're only doing the bikini area. If that's the case, there's very little you can do, other then stop shaving.

Altenweg is right, it usually itches continually due yeast and /or urinary infections, best to visit a gynecologist as soon as possible. Don't wait for it to get aggravated!

How long ago did you stop shaving your vagina completely? It could be that the hair growing in is still new and coarse and causing irritation.

But it is MORE important is you see the doctor to rule out any infections.
