Ben Lieber is a waiter at the Harbor House, where he receives a weekly wage of $80.00 plus tips for 40 hour workweek. Lieber's weekly tips usually range from $180 to $200.

    A) Under the fair labor standards act, the minimum amount of wages that Lieber must receive for a 40 hour workweek is

    My answer I got was
    $5.15 * 40=$206

    B) Since it is in violation of the FLSa the additional amount is should pay Lieber each week to meet the minimum wage requirement for a tipped employee is

    My answer I got was
    $2.13 * 40=$85.20-$80.00=$5.20

    Hello Too Short,

While I am not American, by looking over your answer I take it to assume that the US fair labor standards act is similar to the ones here in Canada, where an employee must get a total remuneration equal to the minimum wage at least.

Therefore, for part A, if the minimum wage is only $5.15 there, then your calculation would be right.

For part B, I have no clue.

    FLSa

What is that? Does that mean the Florida Statute?

If so, what are the laws regarding minimum wage and amounts paid to a restaurant tipped employee?
