I am terrified by lizards. I have a 22 months old baby and a lizard almost made me fall with her as I was running away from it. They are every where! And seem to be very tamed.I even see their feces on my dishes inside the dish drain in the mornings. They are now inside my kitchen cupboard and I am now so afraid to go inside it. So I am now scared to cook

It might help to know where you live so that the experts would know what kind of lizards are indigenous to your area.

Your baby is a toddler. Maybe you should put him/her down (or not pick them up in the first place) while you run away. Just because you are one of the countless millions of people with an irrational fear of something harmless, that doesn't mean you should teach your child to have that same fear.

I don't mean that to sound mean or preachy. Almost all of us have irrational fears, and no amount of logic or argument is going to change that. But try to consider the situation rationally: You have a debilitating fear of something which can't possibly hurt you. That's not your fault, and it's not something you can easily change. However, it almost caused you to accidentally injure your child, and it's causing you to consider filling your house with mildly dangerous gases! Clearly it's a fear that has negatively impacted your life. Do you really want to pass that irrational fear on to your child so they have to live the same way? You should explain to them that irrational fears are perfectly normal, and you happen to have one of lizards, but that in reality they're totally harmless and that most kids, in fact, play with them when growing up.

Since they are an accepted fact of life in much of the south, and considered beneficial for bug control, you might want to move.

Burning sulphur makes Sulphur Dioxide, a very irritating gas. I would not consider this with a child in the house. Even if you leave and gas the house, you will be faced with dead lizards and you are already afraid of them. Is this your house or leased?

Call a local expert in your area and ask him/her how to safely discourage that particular kind of lizard from entering your home.

There may be safe practices that are well used in your area, or it may just be something locals deal with.

If you can't handle it and there's nothing SAFE to be done, consider moving.

You are too right about your preaching. If I needed that I would have paid my money for counselling (I can afford it). I just need to know if sulfur will run the lizards out of my house. My 22 months old still needs to be lifted. Obviously you have no kids or are detached. Either you give me a direct answer or just keep you opinion of my fears to yourself. Thank you

I live in the Caribbean and these lizards are the croken lizards (unsure of the spelling) . They look so much like little dinosaurs. I really want them out of my space

Leased; but I live in the Caribbean and they are always around - everywhere I go, I seem to see them. South America gave me a good advice to get an expert. I am hear searching for a pest control company to come assess my home for me.

For what it's worth, I hear there are electronic lizard repellant gadgets that you can plug in to the wall, but I have no idea if they work or not.

I can't seem to find anything on Croken lizards via Google. Again this is where a local expert would be handy.

Maybe consider methods to rid your house of their food source: bugs. That sticky paper you can hang from the ceiling is safe, those lights that draw in bugs and zap 'em, etc.

I also read that you can get a sticky floor mat that to put at your entrances which trap the lizards. It would mean that you'd have to touch the lizard to remove it from the mat and put it back outside. The floor mat is meant to be a harmless way to trap the lizards and eventually discourage them from that area (their entrance to your home).

As a opinion, if you DO decide to do the mat, check it often enough that the lizards aren't trapped for so long they starve or something.

And by the way, after rereading my original post, I see that it looked like I meant that you shouldn't be lifting your baby in general. No wonder you were offended! When I read your original post, I made the (stupid) assumption that upon seeing the lizard, you had grabbed your child from the floor and almost hurt them trying to make a quick escape (i.e. trying to "save" them from lizard, thus teaching them to be terrified of it). Now I realize that you were already holding him/her when you were startled by the lizard.

In South Florida we had camelians (small lizards) They would be outside in droves cathing all the bugs. When I was a little girl in Pennsylvania some 55 years or so ago I would get one of these camelians and have him on a string tied around his back legs on his abdomen and take him to school with me using a safety pin pinned onto my clothes. I loved them but being too cold in Pennsylvania they would only last a fewmonths and then die of the cold.

They made great pets.

Would recommend that you carefully go around your home filling in any crack and being doubly scrupulous about the space under the outside doors. They are obviously coming inside looking for more food and getting in that way or the windows.

Do NOT burn sulphur inside the home as this will not solve your problem!
