Could not start the Print Spooler Services on Local Computer - Error 123:
Error 123: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect

This is the message I get when I try to start my print spooler in the services application. My printers have been missing recently, because of a virus I suspect. One curious item I noticed when I double click on the Print Spooler, the path reads: C:\C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe. Is the double C:\ causing the problem?

You should try deleting your printer drivers and then reloading them. If you have any kind of virus would suggest you try to isolate and get rid of that or more of your software will disappear little by little. I had the .lnk virus earlier this year and tried everything but in the end I had to totally reformat and reload my o/s and all my programs.

Try the reload the printer drivers first to see if that fixes your problem before you do a total wipe out of your hard drive trying to catch the virus/

Yes the C:\C:\ would constitute a syntax error.

Problem solved! I found a previous commenter with a similar problem and followed their steps. I had to correct the value data string for ImagePath in the registry under the spooler. Some how it was changed and all I needed to do was correct it to %SystemRoot%\system32\spoolsv.exe.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will definitely be coming back here if any future problems arise!
