Define "drive gates"? Define "shared drive".

Normally a shared drive means a narrower driveway that give access to a wider area at the rear. So there is only room for one car to navigate, but room for multiple cars to park. This would generally mean that one side of the drive is within one property line and the other side within the other property line. So if there is a gate on the drive, then at least one part of it would be on the other property. That would mean you need to agree with your neighbor on what to do with the gates.

But a further explanation might change that answer.

I assume you mean a single driveway that runs down a property line where both sides use that one drive. right? Ownership and responsiblilties is usually laid out in the deed. Have you read your deed to check it out? I would say most likely no to your qquestion

It also depends upon who actually owns the gate. Did you pay for the purchase and installation, or was it there when you acquired your property?

Do you have keys to lock or use the gates, where they up before you moved in ?

Do you own the property or are you a renter ?

    A lot more info please
