I need someone with expertise with Cosigner laws
    Hi,
I have a cosigner on a three-year rental in Nassau county, because my credit is poor. The party who cosigned has meticulous credit, and now has stated that "he's changed his mind"; and won't stand by the agreement. He was paying the rent, because we had been together for 10 years.
I am a single mother, and don't want to be evicted, only because my now :( :( ex-boyfriend found someone else to share his life with.
I cannot afford the rent, and he knew that entering into this agreement. He has a very "comfortable' life, and I don't know what to to.
Can anyone advise me of his obligation to continue to pay the rent, as originally agreed.

If he co-signed the lease, then you are both responsible for paying the rental. If you don't then the landlord will start eviction proceedings against you both. There is no way to force him to pay anything more than is owed up until eviction or the unit is re rented.

Whether the landlord sues for that back rent and whether he places the info on a credit bureau depends on the landlord.

But I don't see anyway to avoid eviction except moving first.

The only other possibilities is claiming common - law spouse status and then trying to get him to pay alimony and child support (I assume the child is his).
