I had a tile floor put in my bathroom and a new high boy toilet, shortly after I began having a sewer smell in my bathroom, when I flush the toilet it gurgles in my Bathtub, the toilet is tight to the floor, but the smell seems to be coming from toilet, I had my septic tank emptied, and while the septic tank was still uncovered a guy went on the roof to check my vent pipe and ran a snake through it which actually we could see come out in the septic tank, so no blockage. Some one suggested putting 2 seals on the toilet, I had that done also, now someone has suggested that I need to buy a kit, available at Lowe's to build the drain up to meet the floor, because after having the tile installed it isn't flush with the floor, the smell is continuing to get worse, last night I had to put a fan in the window to try and draw the smell out of the bathroom and shut the door, it was terrible... I need help... I am a single Mother, don't have a handy man available and need some expert advice, before I hire someone. Any suggestion's as what to do next?? Thank's Janice

Janice is it coming from the floor or the inside of the wall?

Is this a second bathroom or the original main In other words was this aded by a non professional who might have used the vent from the shower and do you gat a smell out of the shower drain?

Main & Only bathroom.. I think the smell is coming around the toilet, not a wall... And after flushing toilet, it makes the gurgle sound it could possibly be coming from the bath tub drain also.. It is hard to tell.. because the whole bathroom smells.. very small room... Do you think ,it could possibly help to get the kit from Lowe's, to build the TOILET drain up to be flush with the floor, the bathroom itself is not a new addition, I just had tile put on the floor, then the toilet drain wasn't flush with the floor, the tile is higher than the drain... that is why someone suggested to put 2 seals on it...

The kit is not expensive but you 'll need a new wax seal again

I don't think the smell would be as bad if it was just the flush issue with the floor

I have changed many toilets and the smell only last a few minutes sounds more like a broken pipe

The kit is your cheapest solution always start with the cheap stuff first

The girgeling is it a sound like a botle with no air getting in or just a water flowing sound

The guy who checked your vent did he just check the main or did he go into the basement and look were the toilet is hooked up to your main and is it a separate vent or did they run like normal to the main stack

The suggestion is a good one. When you tiled the floor you raised the level of the toilet leaving a gap between the toilet outflow and the floor flange. The kit referred to is just an extension ring that is attached to the floor flange to bring it up to the new finished level of the floor. It is not really a kit, just an extension ring. Easily attached to the original floor flange.
The wax ring seals the toilet to the floor flange. It is not uncommon to use two wax rings when the gap between the toilet and the floor flange is great. It is better to install the extension ring. The odor is a result of not having a good seal by the wax ring.

It is not unheard of to have portions of the wax get compressed down and fall into the piping causing a blockage or partial blockage. This can cause air in the pipe to be forced back up and out the toilet and cause burbling in the toilet or to block th event and cause gurgling.

Remove toilet, remove all remnant of wax around and possibly inside the pipe. Pour hot water, as hot as you can get down the pipe. This is to possibly melt any wax that has fallen down the pipe. Install extension ring to the floor flange. Install new wax ring, shaping it, pulling it back away from the edge of the pipe so that when compress it will not block the pipe.
