    Hmm, in my opinion mostly becaue it enabled people to sit in the comfort of their homes and play a game they enjoy with multiple different people that bring their own play styles and are much better opponents than facing against AI. This helped bring a whole new aspect to playing computer games.

    Why do you think it did?
