My Taskbar Has Become 3 Bars Tall. It Still Shows Start, But Also Icons From My Desktop. How Can I Shrink It Down To Normal Again?

Windows XP:
Right-click on an empty area on the taskbar
Ensure the menu that pops up says it's 'unlocked'
Position cursor over top edge of task bar until double arrow appears
Hold left mouse button down, move mouse to size taskbar to suit your taste
Right-click empty area again
Select "lock taskbar"
Done. :)

As for the Icons - in the task bar, they only require one click to activate, so leave popular apps there.

If they are not duplicated on your desktop, just drag-and-drop them back

If they are duplicated on your desktop, just right-click and select "delete" for the ones you don't want

Te desktop icons maybe due to using the desktop toolbar.
To change this:
Right click on task bar > Toolbars > UNcheck Desktop.
JOb done.
