My Hitachi 43FWX20B TV worked fine earlier this morning. Now, when I turn it on, either via the remote or manually, the red power light comes on, then goes off. I can hear switching going on (normal start up noises). I've removed the batteries from the remot and tried, with same results. Same thing happens when trying to start TV with the remote. Have reset the power outlet to no avail.

Try unplugging it for a while (at the very least a minute). Then plug it back in and see if that works.
