Does the TV have to be programmed because my external speakers are hooked up but NO SOUND.
It shouldn't need to be programmed. Are the speakers part of a surround sound system or are they the speakers that are attached to the Bravia?
I believe in the TV's menu you can choose fixed or variable, and the audio needs to go through an amp, not directly to speakers, at least on the older Bravias'.
Yep. This is likely the problem. Setting the audio output to fixed will simplify the use of the system. Keep in mind that using the audio output of the TV will only provide you with stereo sound. Unless you are using the internal tuner and fiber optic... in which case you would get 5.1 when available.
If you want 5.1 with all devices, you will have to connect your equipment differently.
