Hello,I would like to move my washer upstairs could someone tell me the best way to run the drain.not sure if the tub is running to the 2 inch vent because its under the floor under the tub. Iv'e uploaded a picture to help better describe what I have.Thanks Charles

Your pic is too small for me to see much. Most tubs are 1 1/2" while showers are 2". With a washer you can't guess, got to be 2". Are you planning on tapping into the tub drain or into a vent stack or what?

Sorry about the pic.It's a 2 in vent with a vanity connected to it downstairs with a 1 1/2 trap about 2' away and upstairs the tub may or may not be connected to the vent. It could be connected to a four " stack that is behind the toilet,I woul like to tap in the 2 in stack because it's in the attic with easy access to it

You can't connect into that 2" vent stack as it is, well, a vent stack...;) Here, if you were to connect into that vent stack upstairs then the water from the washing machine would pass the now "unvented" sink (and as you said, "maybe the tub", too) and will siphon the PTRAPS of water and allow sewer gasses into your home...a BAD THING!! OK?

Here, in order to connect a washing machine upstairs you will need to connect a new 2" waste pipe from below the sink drain and run that upstairs.

The washing machine would also require its own 1.5" vent and that could connect into the other house vents at a minimum of 42-48" off the finished floor the washing machine is on.

The dryer vent would also need to be dealt with as well as the dryer wiring (or gas piping).

If you decided to proceed with this I would also recommend that you consider installing the washing machine in a washing machine pan, install SS braided hoses and you may even want to consider installing a FLOODSTOP automatic shutoff at the pan for best installtion!
