    Kitchen Sprayer and spout problem
    Hi,

I am having problems with my kitchen sprayer. After using the sprayer for about 10 seconds, I could not get it to STOP spraying. In fact, the water now comes out steadily from both the sprayer and the spout. The faucet/sprayer worked correctly the last time I used it which was the day before... Is the problem possibly in the sprayer nozzle (the thing that you push in to spray) ? Please tell me how to fix this one.. thanks...

You can disassemble the sprayer and check it for crud. With the water off unscrew the srayer from the hose. The srayer fan should also unscrew and the valve should come out. It isn't too expensive to just buy a new sprayer at Home Depot or the like.

Thank you for your response... I did unscrew the sprayer from the hose yesterday and found a little spring... I didn't see a valve or maybe I'm not sure what to look for... I will try replacing the sprayer if you think this will permanantly fix the problem...

I think your problem lies in the diverter. It sounds like it's not closing off the spout when you activate the spray head. Shut the water off and remove the handle and spout assembly. The diverter will be found under the spout in front of the valve body. Pull it out and clean the diverter seat. Good luck, Tom

Hey Sppedball. I drive past your old haunts every weekend on the way to Galena area. Straighten me out on the sprayer topic. I thought of the diverter but did not go that route. Since she gets water out of the sprayer without depressing the sprayer button I went with the sprayer valve being stuck with crud. Ifthe diverter is sending water to faucet and the sprayer wouldn't the sprayer button stop the spray?

"Ifthe diverter is sending water to faucet and the sprayer wouldn't the sprayer button stop the spray?"

No, when the faucet's turned on it pressurizes the spray so it's pressurized all the way through the hose to the shut off trigger in the spray head.
When you pull the trigger on the spayhead the diverter flap snaps down on the seat and seals off the spout. When the trigger's released the sprayhesd shuts off and the diverter opens back up to let the water come out of the spout. Cheers, Tom

That is what I thought about diverter operation. So how come the home owner still gets water through the sprayer when she releases the trigger? My thought was that the trigger valve is stuck open.

The asker tore into the sprayer valve. It sounds like she should just purchase a new sprayer head and put this problem to rest. Regards,Tom
